Korean 101 with Girls' Generation! #1 (Self-Introduction)

Learn Korean with Girls Generation

안녕하세요! Annyeong haseyo!

How is your Korean?  With our love for our idols and the Korean Pop culture, many fans have also started learning the Korean language but if you still haven't, maybe it's time to give it a try?

That's what this new feature post is all about and to make it more fun, Girls' Generation will be joining us along the way.

Korean 101 with Girls' Generation! #1
자기소개 / jagisogae (Self-Introduction)
자기 = self  +  소개 = to introduce

For our first post, we will be learning how to introduce ourselves in Korean.  We've seen SNSD introducing themselves every time they perform or during interview and that's what we'll learn for today.

In the video above we have watched SNSD introduce themselves by saying:

Example:
안녕하세요    소녀시대    입니다!
annyeong haseyo So Nyeo Shi Dae imnida!
Hello we are So Nyeo Shi Dae!

안녕하세요 / annyeonghaseyo is the formal way of saying hello but if you are talking to your friend or someone younger, you can just say 안녕 / Annyeong.

입니다 / imnida is added at the end to express formal statements.

In our example we used 소녀시대 / So Nyeo Shi Dae as our name so if you want to introduce yourself, just can just follow that format and replace it with your name.  That way, you can already introduce yourself in Korean.

Here are more ways to introduce yourself:

Example 1:

안녕하세요      이름은   태연   입니다
annyeong haseyo je ireumun Taeyeon imnida
Hello my name is Taeyeon

Aside from 안녕하세요 / annyeonghaseyo and 입니다 / imnida, other words that were used here are:

제 / Jewhich can mean I, my or me

이름 / ireum = means name

/ un = was added at the end of our subject, in this example, it was ireum / name.

Example 2:
안녕하세요 저는 태연 입니다
annyeong haseyo jeoneun Taeyeon imnida
I am Taeyeon

저는 / jeoneun = translates to I am

Those are three ways on how you can introduce yourself.  We hope you learned something from this short lesson and if you want to learn more, please stay tuned~
